Teen charged with stealing women’s underwear
Deputies said they’ve gotten reports of break-ins in the area for three years.
A Conover teenager is charged with breaking into homes to steal women’s underwear.
Tim Killian showed Eyewitness News where he found footprints outside his home in Conover on two different occasions. He became so concerned he changed the locks at his home.
“It is a little scary, especially with a young daughter at home. It makes me scared for them,” Killian said.
Killian could never find anything missing, but deputies say they have recovered dozens of women’s undergarments stolen from houses nearby, enough to fill a shopping bag.
Matthew Pearson, 18, was charged Thursday with two counts of burglary and larceny from a building.
“Someone who breaks in and steals — we are used to dealing with that But someone who goes in and takes only women’s undergarments, you do have some other concerns. It is a big invasion of privacy,” said Capt. Joel Fish with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said undergarments were found in Pearson’s parents’ home, which is in the neighborhood where the break-ins happened.
Authorities said he did admit to some of the thefts.
It became such a problem, one neighbor went door to door alerting people.
“His wife had seen someone in her window at night, and he was actually coming around the neighborhood with a description,” said neighbor Nick Pollard.
Others, including Dorothy Sain, hope if the allegations are true, the teenager gets counseling.
“I tell you, I’d take him to get him help. Get him help for him,” Sain said.
